The Okanogan and Wenatchee National Forests are completing their first year of planning under the 2005 Travel Management Rule (also known as the ORV Rule) which requires the designation of routes for motorized vehicle use and prohibits cross country motorized travel. The Rule only applies to summer motorized routes; snowmobile routes are not being evaluated. Official announcement of public meetings revealing the preliminary proposals for motorized travel in different ranger districts of WNF is now on the web at: http://www.fs.fed.us/r6/wenatchee/travel-management/. Maps and other information about the ID team proposal should be posted on the web soon. Dates set for the Cle Elum Ranger District are: and Saturday August 11 10 AM-1 PM Both meetings will be held in the Cle Elum Ranger Station's Tom Craven Conference room. A message from Tim Foss, Trail, Wilderness, and ORV Manager, Cle Elum Ranger District states: "These meetings will be an "open house" format and will be for the purpose of clarifying the proposal, and allowing some dialog between the public and the members of the team that put it together to help you as you review the proposal this summer. Feel free to arrive and leave any time. I want to emphasize that, although these meetings will occur later in the summer, we are working very hard to get maps of the proposal completed and on the web this week, so you can start your review as soon as possible." |
